These contests are open to students living or attending school in Frederick County Maryland only.

These and all other contests and events sponsored by the Optimist Club of Frederick are open to youth in the Frederick County, Maryland vicinity.  If you are out side the Frederick County, Maryland area please check with your local Optimist Club for Optimist activities in your area. Who are the Optimist Club of Frederick?

Chartered in March 1947 the Optimist Club of Frederick, Inc. is Maryland's second oldest Optimist Club.  Based in the city of Frederick, Maryland, the Optimist Club of Frederick, Inc. works as a Friend of Youth in Frederick County, Maryland. 

Since 1986 the Frederick Optimist has held a yearly Talent Show to showcase the talent of Frederick Counties youth. During Youth Appreciation Week (YAW) the Optimist's of Frederick recognizes that the majority of today youth are outstanding citizens.  Each year Frederick county Youth are given the opportunity speak their minds in the Oratorical and Essay Contests. In May the Law Enforcement community of Frederick County is honored as the Frederick Optimist' join Optimist International in the Respect for Law program.  The Frederick Optimists are the proud sponsors of Frederick Counties HOBY ambassadors. At Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) high school sophomores leadership potential is enhanced.

What is Optimist International?

Formed in Buffalo, NY in 1911 Optimist Clubs have grown across North America and into 16 countries worldwide. As shown by the Optimist’s motto, "Friend of Youth", the club’s focus has always been on youth.  The original motto “Friend of the Delinquent Boy” evolved into “Friend of the Boy” and finally to “Friend of Youth.”  Optimist Clubs continue to promote in youth an active interest in good government, civic affairs and a respect for law. For more information about Optimist International visit their website: www.optimist.org.

Our Purpose - Optimist Club of Frederick

The purpose of the Optimist Club of Frederick, Inc. shall be to develop Optimism as a philosophy of life, utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed;

•  to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; 

• to inspire respect for law; 

• to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; 

• to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one's self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world.

Frederick Optimist Meetings

The Optimist Club of Frederick meets on the third Tuesday each month at 6:30 P.M. The meetings are held at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Trinity United Methodist Church is located next to the junction of West Patrick Street and US Route 15, with the entrance on Kline Blvd.
